The challenge
This project combined a complete structured cabling installation with a fully fitted-out whitespace across multiple technical rooms. The cabling alone was extensive: multiple fiber-optic cables had to be laid and split between distribution cabinets and customer cabinets, supplemented by several copper cable routes, with every fiber requiring bidirectional testing on two wavelengths to guarantee performance. An additional delicate task involved re-splicing existing high-core cable terminations between the core infrastructure and secondary distribution rooms — work that touches live, operational infrastructure and leaves no room for errors or unplanned downtime. On top of that, the whitespace fit-out had to bring together multiple standalone systems — racks, rack PDUs, hot aisle containment, and cable ladders on structural supports — into one coherent, correctly phased installation spanning multiple rooms.
What we did
DC Connect planned the splicing work on the existing backbone cable terminations with strict care for the live connections, and only performed splicing on the distribution cabinet side to avoid unnecessary contact with active connections. Every fiber — new and re-spliced — was tested bidirectionally at two wavelengths, providing fully verifiable proof of link quality before handover. The physical setup was phased so that cable ladders and structural supports were installed first in all areas, followed by rack installation, PDU mounting, and hot aisle containment — ensuring every system ended up in the right place without rework or conflicts between disciplines.
The outcome
A fully tested, high-density fiber and copper cabling backbone between distribution cabinets and customer cabinets, end-to-end verified with bidirectional tests at two wavelengths, together with a complete whitespace environment — racks, PDUs and hot aisle containment — installed and commissioned across all technical rooms without disrupting the existing live infrastructure.
